Fern Ānuenue Holland was born in Kapahi and raised on Kauaʻi. She is a Kapaʻa High School graduate who loves her home and wants to serve. She has many childhood friends who, like her, struggle to make ends meet. Too many families have already been forced to leave. Fern is committed to doing everything to fight for our local families when making decisions in an effort to build a better future for Kauaʻi (and Niʻihau!) while honoring our unique history and culture.
Since moving home from college, with her science degree 12 years ago, Fern has participated in many community organizing and environmental science conversations. She has engaged on issues before the State Legislature and County Council many times and understands the many complex problems our Kauaʻi community is concerned about. Fern wants to bring her passion and expertise for increasing local agriculture & food production and environmental protection to the table on the Council to address our core issues and prioritize the affordable housing crisis, combat the systemic drug abuse & addiction issues, solve our waste & landfill needs, and strengthen & diversify our economy while helping shape lucrative well managed & eco based tourism opportunities.
Fern will take on tough issues and work hard for Kauaʻi. Her life experience and education will make her a good Councilmember. Fern's abilities to be analytical, work collaboratively and communicate well will benefit the work and the dynamics within the Kauaʻi County Council and help our County legislative branch be productive and make thoughtful and fair decisions.
